Local Attractions

Gelli is situated in an ideal place to enjoy all that Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion have to offer. The village of Pen-y-bont is just 1 mile away, and the local villages of Trelech and Talog are both around 3 miles away. All three villages have great communities, offering a range of activities, groups and support. Talog Farmer’s Market has fantastic local produce and has become very popular. The small town of St Clears is about 9 miles away, pretty Newcastle Emlyn is about 10 miles away and the bigger town of Carmarthen is about 10 miles away.

We love the Wales Coast Path and go walking there regularly. The coastlines are absolutely stunning, with dramatic cliffs and stunning coves and beaches. Barafundle Bay in Pembrokeshire is reportedly one of the best beaches in the world, but there are so many more, including lots of lovely secret coves and beaches. The wildlife is superb, with regular sightings of peregrines, dolphins and seals, to name but a few.

Cardigan, the gateway to the Teifi Valley isn’t far away and the beautiful harbour town of Tenby is well worth a visit. The National Botanic Garden of Wales is only 15 miles away. About 35 minutes away, Teifi Marshes is a lovely nature reserve with family friendly trails and the chance to see a range of wildlife, including otters and kingfishers if you’re lucky. Bosherston Lily Ponds are a lovely place to spend a sunny day and within walking distance to Barafundle Bay and a few good pubs (recommend the Stackpole Inn). There are a number of castles and other historical places of interest throughout the region. The Gower is only about 75 minutes away.

There are some great pubs and eateries around. The Nag’s Head at Abercych is a favourite, along with Y Polyn at Capel Dewi. Tafell a Tân in Llangrannog is an award-winning pizza café, which does fabulous pastries and hand-made pizzas which you can eat in or take down to the beach. Crwst Bakery in Cardigan is also worth a visit for their popular bread and sweet delights (try their cinnamon bun!), or visit their beachside café in Poppit Sands.

There are too many places to mention, but hopefully the photos below will show you some of what the area has to offer.

The closest shop is a small Spar about 7 miles away in Cynwyl Elfed. There are small supermarkets in Newcastle Emlyn and St Clears, and then Carmarthen has numerous big supermarkets, including Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl and Aldi.

There are doctors surgeries and pharmacies in St Clears, Newcastle Emlyn and Carmarthen. They also have Post Offices in all of these towns.

There’s a bus to Carmarthen every day except Sunday (I think) and there’s a train station in Carmarthen.

We don’t know much about the local schools, but there are plenty of children around and there’s a school bus that picks kids up from around our lanes.
